How to Make a Proper Resume
By:Trevor Johnson

When learning how to make a proper resume you need to determine which resume format will be best for your skills and profession. To figure this out you need to think about your audience and what information should that audience know about you and your background. You should write down some notes about your employment background, skill set and any awards or recognition you have received in the past.

There are three different types of resume formats you can use to create a resume. The chronological resume is perhaps the easiest of the three to write and it is also very popular and easy to read. You begin this resume by writing your most recent employment or education and then working backwards. This is perfect if you are looking for a job that is very similar to your last job.

The functional resume organizes all of your experience and information by area of expertise. Instead of emphasizing your job titles and employers you instead are highlighting your job skills. Ultimately you really avoid your employment history.

A combination resume will combine the functional resume and the chronological resume. In this type of resume you first list your skills but then you also include all of your employment history. This is a fantastic way to show off your experience and skills.

If you have just graduated from college or are going back to work after a long time period elsewhere then the chronological resume is not recommended. This will tend to display the fact that you don't have a lot of experience. The functional format is a better choice. For those that may have plenty of experience but then chose the functional format this can raise flags, as it does not include employment history, which can be of some concern for potential employers.
