Resume and Interview Tips

Ways to Write an Effective Cover Letter For Job Application
By:Gary Goh

When sending out letters for job applications, the most important aspect would be your cover letter. No matter how impressive your resume might be, your application might just go down the recycle bin if your cover letter is simply too plain or sloppy. Here are some tips to help you with your cover letter.

Avoid certain numbers in your job application letter. You might think that being 24 years of age to be something very advantageous. However, not everyone sees things the way you do. Being young would just mean that you're still lack of the necessary experience and maturity. They would find out your age eventually, when they have a look at your resume. There is no point in highlighting these unnecessary numbers.

Most applicants' letters begin with "To whom it may concern". A very simple way to score with your cover letter is to include the name of the person you are actually submitting your job application to. You might be wondering: How do I know that person's name? Simple, just search the internet or give the receptionist a call. Often, their designations are known to you, example Senior Manager of X Department. Use this information to get his name.

Plan your letter so that the length is just nice, not too short or too long. Introductions for the first paragraph, with the position you're applying for mentioned. The following 2 paragraphs should include your set of skills. You could explain certain detail not mentioned in your resume, for instance your reasons for switching jobs.

Follow these tips for better chances of making it to the interviews.
