Resume and Interview Tips

Ways to Write an Effective Job Application Letter
By:Gary Goh

We all know that having a very impressive resume may secure you an interview. However, if you couple your impressive resume with a poorly written cover letter, the results may not seem as promising anymore. Here are some tips to help you with your cover letter.

Most job seekers are either lazy or ignorant when preparing a job application letter. If you're one of those applicants who use the same cover letter for all the companies you're applying for, you should seriously scrape this habit. One of the most common mistakes is getting the company name wrong. Instead, you should tailor your application letter for each job and each company you're writing to.

Never include your personal detail in your letter to your potential employer. There is no point in mentioning your gender or your religion, unless they're looking to hire based on a specific gender or religion. There are times when less actually means more.

Your job application letter should be written in a tone which gives room for further conversations. If your letter is written with only facts, you may sound too stiff and boring. Keep in mind that your main objective with this letter is to attract the interviewer wanting for more.

Finally, spend some time and effort with your letter. Proofreading is absolutely necessary. Your application would end up in the recycle bin if your sloppy cover letter contains just one too many grammar and spelling mistakes.

Follow these tips for better chances of making it to the interviews.
