Resume and Interview Tips

Tips to Write Your Covering Letter 1
By:Gary Goh

The most crucial element while sending out job applications is your cover letter. Think of it as a book cover. Most people would actually judge a book's contents based on the cover.

With thousands of books in the bookstore, the design of the cover would just have to scream "Buy me!" Here are some tips to help you with your cover letter.

Emphasize what you could offer for the company. You may claim that you have an extremely good set of skills, but what companies are looking for is how these skills would benefit them. Instead of saying you are good with numbers, you should say that you could help save money for the company.

Your job application letter should never be the same as your resume. There is no point in having separate cover letter and resume if both the contents are exactly the same. One smart thing to do is probably highlighting some of your accomplishments or details which were not mentioned in your resume.

The only detail to duplicate from your resume into your letter is your contact info. In the event your cover letter gets separated from your resume, the company would still be able to contact you if they have some interest in you.

If you're a fresh graduate, you need not mention this at the very first line of your letter. You may be a fresh graduate just as everyone else, therefore you should actually include the wow factor in the very first line, instead of highlighting something so typical.

Follow these tips for better chances of making it to the interviews.
