How to Use an Interactive Whiteboard in ESOL Classes
By:Terrance Karter

Interactive white boards can be used in all sorts of classrooms. In ESOL classrooms, or classrooms that focus on English as a second language, you can use the white board in a few distinct ways. The white board encourages students to pay attention, and gives them a more illustrated look at the language.

Write notes on the interactive white board, such as vocabulary words and illustrations of specific speech patterns. Because some students learn better when they read, as opposed to when they listen, and because other students feel the opposite way, you can gain their attention by doing both at the same time. Reading and writing together helps all students comprehend.

Have students give presentations on the interactive whiteboard. Each of them can choose a specific English phrase -- write it, as well as the translation -- and then make an illustration for the word or phrase. When they present the phrase to the other class members, all of the class will benefit from the instruction.

Use the interactive whiteboard to go online to a specific site that gives language instruction in English.
