Tips On Dealing With Computer Worms
By:Julie Armstrong

It is common knowledge that computers often have issues. Sometimes these come from the hardware and software itself. Other times these problems are caused by people who program malicious applications that can take over your machine and wreck things. One of these types of programs that you need to avoid completely are computer worms.

What is a computer worm?

A computer worm is a malicious file that sits on your system and is programmed to do a certain task. Many times these tasks are malicious either destroying parts of your system or spying on your content. They are programmed to replicate themselves which normally happens through instant messaging software, email, and operating system exploits. You can protect yourself from these malicious files.

First of all, stay up to date on major threats. Many times these are in the news preparing you on what you need to do to protect your system before you get hit with the problem.

Always get your operating system updates. This is important because many times these updates take care of the exploits that are there patching up security problems.

Get an up-to-date virus protection software. If you get into the habit of getting the updates for this software, the latest threats should be avoided as the software is going to protect you.

Be skeptical about all your email attachments. Many times worms can use contact lists to send attachments which can be another worm. Be careful when opening these up. If you do not know who the attachment is from, never ever open these files as they are worms or another type of virus that you do not want to deal with.

It is normally hard to delete the worm once it is already in your system and becomes an active program. If you know where the worm is on your system, you can start your computer up in safe mode and delete it that way.
