How to Start Writing a Book in Your Free Time
By:Trevor Johnson

Do you have a great idea that you think would make a compelling book but don't know how to start the writing process? Or, perhaps you suddenly have a lot of free time on your hands and would love to write a book but don't have an idea? Whichever way it may be for you, it doesn't have to be complicated to learn how to start writing a book in your free time.

If you already have an idea or even a small germ of an idea, you are a lot further along than most professional authors have when they sit down to create a new novel. No matter what amount of time you have to spend on writing, it is important that you sit down and just get your fingers moving.

The biggest obstacle to writing is often the blank page staring back at you, so eliminate that problem right away. Give yourself permission to fill up part of that page right away, even if it is not top quality writing. The editing process will come later and take care of that. If the bad writing sets you off to some really original writing that brings the story alive it is well worth it.

If your problem is getting the ideas to begin with, then you need to start with one character. That's right; you just need one single character to start an amazing story.

Conflict, tension, plot twists, and all those fun things that go into a book usually come directly from your characters. Find your character and you find all of that and more.

Try flipping through magazines until you see someone interesting. What is this person's name? What is their life like? What is it they really want and more importantly, what is it that stands in their way to getting it?

Get to know your character until they feel like a real person in your life and you will have more than enough material to create an interesting book.

Learning how to start writing a book in your free time is often a matter of training yourself to sit down and just write. Get your fingers moving and let the story unravel itself.
