If the bank staff damaged your passport then yes, they are liable and should pay. However, as we know, most Chinese have no sense of responsibilty, and will always blame someone else for their stupidity. Can you speak Chinese? If so, you should confront the staff at the bank ( a senior manager would be good ) and make a big deal out of it. Damaging a laowai passport is a big deal, it is not a minor issue like the Mancunian poster seems to think it is.

If you can't speak Chinese, do you have a Chinese GF or wife? If so, take them with you and confront the individual who damaged your passport in front of his/her colleagues. Only then will they act.
