Yes, 1500 RMB a month is definitely enough to live on, if:

a.) You have an expensive heroin/meth addiction to feed, that consumes most of your income (then why the f**k are you teaching?).

b.) You have crippling child support/student loans to pay off and they're actually on to you (They usually can't do shit here).

c.) You want the 'real China™' rural farmer experience (Oh, yet another one of those hipster Tims...).

In some parts of Chengdu, you could easily blow that in a weekend. In other parts of Sichuan that people are likely to actually work in (I said work, not volunteer), it still won't go all that far.

If you want to be extra stingy and save money, great. But if you're thinking of taking a lower salary, show some self respect and reject them.
